Whispering Woods is dedicated to raising a gentleman's hunting companion. Our kennel provides English Setters, which are close working dogs. They are both a pleasure to be around and easy to train. We have been breeding gun dogs since 1985. All of our breeding stock are our personal hunting dogs. As a small kennel, our goal is to provide a quality hunting companion, not quantity.

To the right is pictured Parker, our foundation stud dog. You can navigate this website by using the menu on the left, or you can read on below for a better description of our kennel.

We usually breed as early in the spring as mother nature allows. We start taking deposits on the litter at that time. Providing half down will hold a place in the pick for you. When the breeding takes place we call our customers and let them know. We will call again at 28 days, when the bitch is palpated to confirm pregnancy. Tentative plans are then made for the week the pups go home at 7 weeks old.

At the time of your pick, you may choose from all pups in the litter - male or female. This allows you to change your mind to a different sex dog if you choose. I keep track ahead of time how all customers are leaning as far as sex preference. Everyone still has the opportunity to change their mind if they see a pup they really like.

Everyone is encouraged to visit often during the 7 weeks of growing. For out of state customers visiting can be difficult. We will send photos often by the internet during that time.

Puppies

All of the pups have a great potential as gun dogs when they go home with you. In almost 20 years of breeding we have never had anyone call to tell us the dog has no hunting desire - that is an inherited trait. You as owners must mold the pups into a hunting companion with love and discipline. The first 3 months that the pup is home with you is critical for bonding and discipline. Your initial training is much more important than taking them home at 7 weeks on the day.

Your initial time should be spent as much as possible with the dog. We recommend you take your dog on long walks and train them manners - especially in the house. A well disciplined dog is a pleasure to be around, while an out of control dog is not. You have this responsibility.
